Body burnout can be caused by chronic stress and pressure - stress hormones like cortisol are depleted due to constantly being in fight-or-flight mode. It can manifest in physical symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, trouble sleeping and digestive issues. This in turn can make it difficult to relax and recover.

Functional medicine is a type of alternative medicine that uses lab testing to assess body systems and identify imbalances. It identifies imbalances in the body systems that contribute to burnout, such as the neuroendocrine system, the gut, and the detoxification system. Unconscious core beliefs can be a root cause of burnout. These beliefs, formed in childhood, can be negative and self-limiting, leading to self-sacrificing behaviors and a lack of self-love. For example, someone who believes they are weak and incapable may be more likely to experience burnout because they are constantly pushing themselves to prove themselves.
